Concordia friends, coaches to be honored as basketball officials

MOORHEAD — Three officials and friends with strong, deep Concordia ties will be inducted into the Minnesota Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Honor on Friday. Bucky Burgau, Darrell Olson and the late Bob Nick are among seven officials to join the Hall of Honor this year. I m really thrilled for Bobby, though he s passed away, and for his family because Bob was an official a lot longer than I was. He s the one who taught me the ropes and would take me into any gym anytime, Burgau said. All three had often officiated together over their decades of wearing a whistle. It s humbling, said Olson, who played for Burgau and Nick while he was a student-athlete at Concordia. I know there s a lot of guys who deserve it as well.
