Minnesota Zoo welcomes 3 orphaned brown bear cubs rescued from Alaska — Brooklyn Park Health news

Minnesota Zoo welcomes 3 orphaned brown bear cubs rescued from Alaska Joey Swanson KSTP Courtesy of the Minnesota Zoo A trio of orphaned brown bear cubs can now call the Minnesota Zoo home after they were rescued from Alaska in July. Two male cubs and one female, all about 9 months old, were found near King Salmon, Alaska, after they were seen without their mother for nearly a week. The zoo said each cub has a distinct personality and a name tied to southern Alaska, where they were rescued. Brooks is the smallest and most outgoing of the three. Bristol is the female cub and is known for chasing her brothers, while Dillingham is the largest and more serious sibling.Courtesy of the Minnesota ZooMinnesota Zoo officials say that one of the cubs was treated for minor injuries consistent with a bear attack and the cubs are now adjusting to their new surroundings and caregivers at the Minnesota Zoo’s Animal Hospital. The Minnesota Zoo says it has nearly two decades of experience caring for brown bears.“Nearly 20 years ago, we welcomed another trio of orphaned brown bears from Alaska, and it’s incredibly special to begin that journey again,” said Diana Weinhardt, curator of Northern Trail at the Minnesota Zoo. “These cubs have a bright future ahead of them, and we look forward to watching them grow while inspiring a new generation of guests to appreciate and protect bears in the wild.”The zoo said the cubs are enthusiastic eaters and enjoy fruits, vegetables and fish.
